    Best Access Repair Utility?

    Hi all:

I'm looking for any recommendations for a good Access Repair Utility program that can succeed when even Microsoft's Access Compact & Repair process fails.

We have a mission-critical app running in Access 2000 and it crashed big time the other day. We were able to go back to a recent backup but we'd like a solution that doesn't involve re-inputing data.

    Any suggestions?

I've demoed Stellar Pheonix Access Recovery and Advanced Access Repair -- but unfortunately neither of these demos lets you save the repaired file without first purchasing a license (I can understand why) -- but it's hard to purchase a $150-$300 program license without knowing it will work first.

    Thanks in advance...

    Steve

So you feel the Data Tables are corrupt? I take it the application is not split into a FrontEnd and BackEnd.

Right, the app is run entirely within Access.

Have you tried IMPORTING your tables from the corrupt db into a new empty db? I would *strongly* recommend you look into splitting your db into data (BE) and program (FE).

per R G ; create a brand new db; import the objects - - can be a bummer if there is alot of vba in events however...as these need rebuilding...

if one form or report is totally corrupt...your problem won't go away until you isolate that by importing objects 1 at a time....and checking as you go...

should have been split - if it was mission critical & multiuser ; should have been regularly backed up if it was mission critical.....

If you can successfully import the tables from the failed db you could then import the rest of the db *except* the tables from the BackUp and you are back up to speed.

Periodically, Microsoft Access databases with VBA module code perform oddly. Code that previously worked suddenly fail or behaves incorrectly.

The initial assumption is that the database is corrupt, which is partially true. People then resort to creating a new database and importing their objects into it which is time consuming and a pain. It solves the problem, but there's a better alternative to check first.
    The Access /decompile command

Fortunately, Microsoft Access offers a way to fix the VBA compiled state with the /decompile command line option.

And YES, if it is mission then you should have split your database.
