Error - 'you do not have exclusive access to the database at this time linked table'

    Hi All,

I am working on an Access database project where I will link tables from other database.

When there are no linked table in the database project, I am able to enter design mode of my form.

If there are linked tables in the database, I will get the following error:
'you do not have exclusive access to the database at this time linked table'

Does anyone has any idea why is this happened? Is there any solution?

    Please advice!

    thank you!

    Best,
    Jack

Sounds like other users have the DB open or are linked to the DB you are linked to

I am not familiar with 2007 but in newer versions of Access you can right click the ribbon. There is an area you can go to and view DB settings.

There are options to open DB exclusively, etc. I have not experienced problems based on linked tables. If all it is, is a linked table, I can edit all night and day to my heart's content. So, something else is going on. Did you create Macros, is something running on startup. What is your DB that you are linked to doing?

hmm... I think it is nothing to do with link table, but I just couldnt find out the reason

so Here's what I did upon main form load
    1. I read a "path" from a text file
    2. Base on the path, I Link a table from it, so now there are 2 db pointer.
    3. then the main file start setting up the query, my currentdb is pointing at the query def and then the setup is finished.

Never encountered this issue. I have no problem going into design view with linked tables.

Why are you linking with a path string from a text file? Post the code.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.
