Post Unable to Open Split Database after Physically Moving Database to a New Machine

    Hi All,

I had a split database on a machine. The database and front end resided on a logical drive (E:\share\GLIS\...) shared on the network. I now have a need to move the front end and back end to a different machine (laptop).

After copying both front-end and back-end files to the new machine the back-end database will open on its own to show tables, but the front end Forms and VB Script Code will not open, presumably because it cannot find the back end (back end path from original environment) to connect to.

The path names for both were assigned when the database was split. I'm not aware of how to assign a new path in the front-end to connect to the back-end after the environment has physically changed.

I cannot remember the original path names where the back end database resided.

Is there any way to 1) assign new path names after the split OR 2) salvage/open the forms and VB script code?

    Thanks in advance!

Try holding down the shift key when opening the front end. If that works, you should be able to use the Linked Table Manager to link to the new back end location.

I gave it a try with the shift key, but no luck. I try to open it and after finding the file in the local hard drive using "Browse" option and the screen flashes white for a second and goes back to the Access application home screen. No error, nothing!

I also have 15 other backups from different stages of development but none of them open.

Is there anyway I can send this db across to you so you can have a look at it? It will be much appreciated.

You should be able to attach it here after compacting and zipping.
