    Training and software

    Hello,

Thank you all for your advice. It has been helpful to read you.
I think we will be looking into open source data integration as it seems to be the most flexible option in regards to our business.

A question: what are the assistance and training capabilities open source software gives to their users? We are testing programs and feel that one day, we might need a better insight of the software.

    Thank you for your help.

nothing flexible about open source products....except perhaps that the user community has a more direct influence on feature set enhancements...... very few users - particularly the kind that would visit this type forum, have the skills to raw code executible enhancements to the underlying source code of an open product... thus an open source product is a fixed product that gets enhanced with every release just like a Microsoft product - - you get what you get.

the price of an Access (or Office Professional Suite) is a nit compared to your overall development time/cost....so that any free open product, such as SQLite or MySQL isn't particularly relevant particularly since the Access2007 run time version is free.

I've compared them all - and when it comes to an integrated form generator and integrated report generator - - Access is great. And you can use as much VB as your skills allow to customize it - so it is as flexible as one needs within the construct that it is fundamentally a desktop product and not a server based product.

I wouldn't look here for advice on education of an open source product - go to their site....
