How Do I "Lock" Contents of an Option Group So They Won't Move Around?

Hello, I’m using Access 2013. I'm new to it; I'm designing my first database with it right now.

I need some help formatting option groups, please.

I’ve created two option groups, one with five radio buttons, the other with three. I spent several minutes designing them, resizing them, aligning them, and positioning them within the boxes that contain them.

So, now I want to move the option groups around, and align them with other objects on the form. This would mean locking the contents so that they wouldn't themselves move around.

I do not know what the proper nomenclature is for this. I’m pretty sure you know what I mean. What is the proper term for this, and how is this accomplished? Thank you. Jd

Group them together. I believe it is on the Format tab.

I found options for Group and Ungroup in Arrange/Sizing & Ordering/Size-Space.

Close, but not completely successful. I did successfully group all of the radio buttons and their corresponding labels. That did seem to work. The problem is, I can't get them and the container box grouped together. Did that make sense? I want the buttons AND the box all grouped together, so I can just drag the whole shebang thingie around. I can't do that. I can move the option group, and then move the box, but I can't do both at the same time. Doing them separately means I have to reposition everything. Don't want to do that.

Is there a way to get EVERYTHING grouped together so I can just grab one handle with the mouse and move the whole darn thing? Jd

I haven't tried it but you should be able to Select both and group them together.

I'm pretty sure I could do this with older versions of Access, but it's been so long since I've worked with Access of any kind, I honestly don't remember. I've been sitting here trying and trying, with no success.

    Yet.

I must be doing something wrong...leaving out a step?

Hold the Control Key down to select more than one item. If you could post the db, maybe someone would try it.

I've been using the CTRL key.

I am willing to post the db, and will attach it to this thread shortly. Thank you.

I just loaded ac2013 and created an Option Group with the wizard. It creates everything already in a Group. Is that what you used?

Are you in Design View or Layout View?

    I am in Design View.

Here's how I created an option group: I clicked the icon for the option group, then dragged the mouse across the form to create a box that's roughly the size I want. I can always resize it.

The option Group Wizard comes up. I did use that, yes. Worked fine.

But the problem is tweaking the option group and the box it's in. Grouping the actual radio buttons together is no problem. Again, at the risk of repeating, I want the buttons AND the box all grouped together. I haven't been able to do that. That's what's bugging me.

I am probably being overly picky and perhaps obsessive. I can move the grouped buttons anywhere, and then drag the box so that it surrounds the group. But that doesn't make sense to me. What makes sense if having everything tweaked and grouped together so I can just move everything all at once.

YES! To the right of the Control Icons on the Design tab is a down arrow that will let you turn on Control Wizards. The Option Group wizard does not show up in Layout view. Go figure!

You are correct. I do not see the option group wizard in Layout View.

But the issue here is not the wizard. The issue here is grouping the entire option group together WITH the box. I've been sitting here trying all sorts of things, and nothing works. I even went ahead and ruined my tweaking of the buttons on purpose, to play with the group. I tried separating the box from the buttons, and moving it. I couldn't. All I did was resize it, against my will.

This is very frustrating. I don't get it.

As I said the Option Group wizard creates an Option Group already grouped.

Do you want to post your db? Maybe someone will look at it. Compact and Repair first and then ZIP it before posting.
