Angry Access 2013 Expression Builder is not invoked to create table calculated field

I'm using Access 2013. Attempting to create a calculated field in a table. Assistance indicates that the Expression Builder will be invoked as follows:
    Create a calculated field

    • Open the table by double-clicking it in the Navigation Pane.
    • Scroll horizontally to the rightmost column in the table, and click the Click to Add column heading.
    • In the list that appears, click Calculated Field, and then click the data type that you want for the result.

    Access displays the Expression Builder.

    • Begin typing the calculation that you want for this field, .....

...However no Expression Builder is launched!!!

Does anyone know what could be causing this?..... Or is simply a bug in Access 2013!

Is the file you're working with actually an A2010 or A2013 (.accdb) file, or is it an older (.mdb) file version? If the latter, then you will not be able to invoke the expression builder on a table field.
