New record manipulation in a form

Simple problems but I am stumped..
I have a simple form that is used to enter data to a table
the record selectors are ON and the NEW (BLANK) RECORD button is there.
When I select that button, or when progressing from last record into a new record, the focus is set on a random field on the new record.
I want to "trap" the new record opening and then select which field to focus on?

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks
