Help with Querying/Reporting of Project Data

    Hi all,

I am need to summarize software Bug data for my project and am fairly new to this kind of thing and am wondering where to start. It should be pretty straight forward, I just need some tips to get started. I have the following data (see attachment) in one table in Access currently. (about 500 records). Basically what I want to do is report:

    Iteration Path
    # of Bugs recorded
    # of Severity = 1-Critical
    # of Severity = 2-High
    # of Severity = 3-Medium
    # of Severity = 4-Low
    # of Environment Type = DV
    # of Environment Type = QA
    # of Environment Type = PR

All of that broken down by Iteration

One thing to note is there will be blanks for some Environment values, there should never be for Iteration or Severity.

First question I have is, based off the attachment, is it ok to have those 4 fields in one table? Do I need to restructure? Secondly, is this a query issue or report issue? Wondering what the correct approach would be to get the data I need.

    Any help is appreciated. thanks

    Josh

So you want aggregate data based on grouping of Iteration and a count of each Security code and a count of each Environment Type.

Sounds like a crosstab query. Review http://allenbrowne.com/ser-67.html

The example for Multiple Sets of Values looks relevant to your situation.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
