Wink A newbie here...looking for some help

    Hi Everyone,

I am here new, but have gone through some threads looking for what I need. I have taken classes in Access in the past but it's been a long time since then, and I'm pretty rusty and I took this class 10 yrs ago so the class wasn't detailed.

I am creating a nurses home-visiting database and am setting up a table for the client (children). I have the following

    Name

    Address

    DOB

Lives with (This is where I am having issues. I have made combobox with the choices, "with parents, with guardian, with foster parent") I am trying to come up with something for when they select either foster parent or guardian...something will pop up and I can enter in contact info about the foster parent or guardian.

Can something like this be done? I hope I explained everything correctly so you guys can understand.

Thanks for anyone who can help me out. :-)

Yes it can be done but specifics depend on your data structure and form design. You need to analyze your data and develop a model before trying to create objects. You will find that most relational databases require multiple tables. Identify the data entities and relationships. Describe that in plain words or build an ERD (a graphical representation). This involves answering questions like:

Could each guardian be associated with more than one child?

Could each child have multiple parents/guardians?

Do you want separate records for each parent/guardian?
