    Error 3167 Compact and Repair

    Hi Everyone,

I am working with a database that is displaying the Error Message 3167 Record is Deleted message. It happens when we try to export out the table (or a query of the table) to MS Excel. I heard that this is usually a sign of corruption in the database.

I have been advised by two different Access programmers, one said I should run the utility Compact and Repair, the other is dead set against running the utility.

My question is twofold, should I run the utility (I was thinking of running it against a copy of the database just to be safe) or not? Also, will this just defrag the database or clean up the corruption as well?

Note: I am also open to third-party tool suggestions

    Using Access version 2003.

    Thanks again,

By all means, do it on a copy. You could also try importing the db in to a new empty db.

Why are they so dead set against running C & R?

You would have to ask them. I've been running my systems with C&R on close for years.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
