Question Compact/Reapir doe not reduce database size

I have a 38MB database which is compacted regularly.
I created a copy of the databaase and then went in and deleted all of the historical tables (one a month since 96) and compacted.
It did not change in size, well okay it dropped to 37mb.

I took the copy of the file, deleted everything excpet this data.
Tables, forms, queries, reports, macros, modules and references are all gone except for the monthly tables.
I compact/repair and it only drops to 33 mb.

Shouldn't more space have been recoved in one or the other databases?

I know the file is not that large, i just do not understand why I am recovering nothing.

    Thanks!

try creating a blank mdb and import all the tables into it. This usually reduces the actual size as well.
