    Equipment Database Design

    Hi there,

I believe that there will be some one who will be able to help out for this type of database design. The idea is to maintain record of Equipment and related aspects.

    Lets have some brain storming contents;

    - 1 Equipment can be in only 1 Work center.
    - 1 Equipment can have one or more spare parts.
    - 1 Equipment can have one or more operational Parameters.
    - 1 Equipment can have one or more Manuals.
    - 1 Equipment can have one or more Consumption data types.

    - 1 Equipment can have one or more Maintenance Schedule.
    - 1 Equipment can have one or more Operators (Day and Night shift).

what can be the best ERD for this type of contents?

Hope to hear from you soon.

    zee

    Dear Recan,

Thanks for your valuable inputs and i am sure, we will have from other experts as well.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

1 Equipment can have one or more Consumption data types.
Means: What is the consumption of Electricity, Gas or fuel

A spare part can belong to 1 or more than 1 Equipment.
    - 95% Spare parts are dedicated to 1 Type of Equipment not to many but there is some cases where some generic electric spare parts can be used as Substitute.

A manual can be relevant to 1 or more equipment.
    - A manual can be only for 1 type of Equipment but there are categories of manuals that can be relevant to 1 type of Equipment.
Like: Operational manual, Maintenance manual and Spare Parts Manual

    thanks

    Zee

Think you have reached the stage, where you can summarize the various relationships in text & build an initial Relationship diagram & post it, for others to give their inputs.

    Thanks
