File share between 2003 and 2007

I run Access 2003 on my desktop and wish to continue to do so. The database I need to share is located there. I am able to access it via my laptop (running Access 2007 under Windows 8), but it would only open as read only. I've tried security and all that good stuff, but am nearly bald! Any ideas?

I have no problem opening mdb in Access 2007 but with Windows XP. No idea if Windows 8 is the villain.

Are you using workgroups in the 2003 design?
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

I can open it, I just can't change the data.

Sorry, should have said no problem opening and editing design and data.

Sounds like a permissions issue. The file is on desktop drive, not a central file server?

Yes, the file is on my desktop in the basement, that's the one running 2003.

If you want to provide db I will test it under Access 2007 and 2010 each under both XP and Windows 7. Don't have Windows 8 available.

    Any luck googling the issue?

No luck with google...tried that before I came here...no need to test under 2010.don't have that. Thanks for the good thoughts, though
