    sort filter, doesn't sort everything

I am trying to sort a table based on two columns (into ascending order of numerical value) used advanced filter sort. The first column sorts perfect, but in the second column there are a few rows that aren't in order. The values in all cells are just numbers, so it is strange that it won't sort. Has anyone come across this before? Could it be that these rogue cells that won't sort have a different format to other cells?

Showing the error with some sample data can be more informative.

Could the second column be a text field?

yes, they're all text fields, every cell. But only some cells/rows don't sort. I tried changing the field to number, via datasheet view but it literally makes it changes all the numbers. I tried the Val function, but it only produces a column of results (i.e. it doesn't update the table). I can't copy the column back into the table as it's too large.

I can't show a copy of the data as it's confidential. But really there's nothing to show, just a bunch of numbers in rows, with one or two rows not sorted properly.

You do understand that an ASCII (text) sort is different than a numerical sort, right?
