Crashes while adding data into Access Memo fields

We are running many MS Access databses in a mixed estate - mostly Windows XP terminals. The databases are split with the front end on the desk top and the back ends on a server running Windows Server 2003. We have a chronic problem of crashes when users go back into memo fields to add data - all text. The problem is intermittant, not possible to reproduce and varies in frequency. Any ideas?

I don't know about causing crashes, but I do know that running Access on multiple OSes is generally a bad idea. Different OSes can have different versions of Jet Direct and can cause corruption on the backend. If you're getting corruption, that may be the cause of your crashes.

Where I work, we used to have a Windows 98 machine (don't ask!) that was running Access. All the rest of our machines are Windows XP.

Because we were using the Win98 machine to connect to the backend, even though we were using the same version of Access Runtime, we had to deal with corruption issues on the backend on a daily basis. As soon as stopped using the Win98 machine for Access, the corruption issues stopped.

Thank you Rawb. This is a good reminder - over the years we have had many a quirky problem that has resolved after an upgrade. All machines running the current problem front end are XP. Maybe this will go away after a desktop upgrade later this yera.
