    Personal Questions..

    Hello, and good day!

So, here is my situation. I am a vba programmer, specializing in automation of Internet applications. I have concerns about my companies stability, and I think I should better prepare myself for a "Just in case" scenario. So, my question is this..

Are vba programming / automation jobs in demand? Furthermore, what do you think is the medium salary for this type of position. Currently I believe I am on the lower end of the pay scale but I have no way of confirming this.

I am not asking for specifics about your personal position, but estimates and rounded figures. I searched a few job sites, and did find SOME positions available.

I have wondered the same thing but not done any searching. There have been a couple job announcements in this forum, one from Kuwait!

We used a consultant to mentor me when I was first assigned task of completing a database. We paid $75 to $100 an hour.

But that was a contracting job. I found one contracting job that pays 40-50 an hour... that is a huge increase for me, however I am looking for stability, so a contracting job is meh at this point.

The individual who mentored me was employed by the consultant firm we contracted with and his earnings were based on billed hours (like lawyers). He later got a regular salary job with a non-profit. So I guess they are out there but maybe hard to find. I work for state agency and there is no IT support for small database users (Oracle is the approved database standard which is overkill for our need) and Analyst/Programmer jobs within the state govt are rare. My actual job is classed as lab technician and I haven't done lab work since I was tasked with building the lab database 6 years ago (it's been running 4 yrs).

Very cool, thank you for the information. I just hate not knowing what the future holds. New family, new house etc etc...

I would think that office automation in the financial industry would generally pay better. These are mainly back office support roles, improving business processes through automation, report generation. There should be plenty of these types of jobs.
