Can one use Access to store information about which "company" owns which company?

    Hi!

I'm working on my master thesis in business strategy, and I've discovered some company ownership that are at worst illegal, at best condemnable. Companies can apply for free import quotas, given that they are at an arm's length from all other companies that are applying for these quotas. However, some people create a lot of companies increasing their total share of the quota. This happens to be in Norway

Let's say that company A owns 60% of company B. Company B owns 100% of company C etc. Is it possible to use access to model this? Each company is also assigned some different quotas - is it possible to dynamically see how "much quota" each company controls? For instance, if Company A owns 60% of Company B, the query will show company A's quota + 60% of what company B controls, which may include shares of other companies etc.

This reminds me of a family tree type of database - one of the more complicated and difficult type of databases to build but it has certainly been done. Then you would want to display the data graphically, as in the posted example. Visio might be appropriate for this. Visio can pull data from Access. How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.
