Exclamation Control Source on Form Reading Value in Table

Here is my situation. I have a table and a form. The table has my data. The form has a textbox that I want to put data in from the table. But, I have already have a record source for my form. When I use a control source for the column from the table, it doesn't input my data. Do I need to do a form load event or what? On one of my forms it has a login screen. I want that Name box to be used to find the data in my table. User inputs Name on one form, it saves that data and I want that Name to go to the Table and pull Dept from that Table and input the Dept into the Textbox on the form.
