    Importing a PDF

I have a database of 21 Dam projects. For each project there is an engineering report that is a PDF. I want to some how attach each PDF engineering report to each Dam entry in the database just so people looking at the database can see the completed reports but not change or edit them.

Any insight would be great as this is my first time using Access!

    Thanks!

    J

If you're using Access 2010 (which it seems you are), you can simply add an "Attachment" Field to the Dam entry Table and copy the PDF into it.

Generally speaking, it's preferred to keep attachments as separate files and just provide links to them in the database (except where security is an issue), but using the "Attachment" Field would be easier..

    Rawb,

    Thank you for your response!

How do you add an attachment field? I don't see an option in any of the tabs at the top...

If you open the Table in Design View, you can just add it that way.

It looks like you're working with a database that's already been developed.

Because of your relative inexperience, with Access, what you're asking is going to be very difficult for you to do: It will require changing the underlying structure of the database, changing any relevant Forms, debugging the programming, and then verifying the integrity of the database afterwards...

If you really want to do through with this project, I'd suggest you find a good Access book, take a week or two to go through it, and then give your changes a try. Otherwise, you'd probably be better off finding someone that can do the project for you.
