Minor change of field name prevents property change

I'm having a bad access day today.

I have an Access 2003 query field expression - Publisher 1 PO Share: Sum([Original Pub Own share 1]/2)

The format is percent / 2 decimal places. Works without any problems.

If I change the expression to - Publisher 2 PO Share: Sum([Original Pub Own share 1]/2)

i.e. just changing 1 to 2 in the name section before the colon, the property changes immediately There is nothing in the Format text box drop down menu in the Field Properties dialog box. I tried typing in percent, but that didn't work.

Utterly confused. I though the field name didn't affect anything

    Pieter

    ...the property changes immediately
I'm not sure what you mean by the property changing. Could you explain?

Also, Access does not like spaces or special characters it field/table names. Have you tried square brackets around the field name like this: [Publisher 2 PO Share]: Sum([Original Pub Own share 1]/2)

It turned out that one Number field imported as a Long Integer while the rest imported as Double. Unfortunately had to deal with an large import from excel where all the field names had spaces. I was hoping to make it work without having to rename everything. Managed to resolve the problem without thank goodness.
