    Question Deleting Duplicates

    Hello,

I haven't found an answer in the archives, and would appreciate the help:
A Find Duplicates query has yielded over 7,000 records, and I need to get rid of the duplicates. My delete query ends up deleting both copies of the record.

Any help is greatly appreciated - thank you!

I am still searching for an answer to this one... perhaps this can't be done in Access. For now I am exporting the table into Excel, having Excel delete duplicate records, and then importing the table anew. For all pairs of duplicated records, the delete query in Access deletes both copies. Any help is greatly appreciated...

You would need to walk through the Find Duplicates query deleting records that are duplicates.

RuralGuy's approach is an indirect way to eliminate duplicate entries.
    The result is alright.

It isn't eliminate any entries of the original database but
create a new one without duplicates.

I also use this approach somehow.

There is an alternative way that eliminate the original database duplicate entries.
But the performance is somehow poor.
It use vba program to loop through the whole set of records and eliminate the entries when it found the duplicates.
