Table fields which depend on other fields

    Hi,

I'm trying to create a table in which the value of one of the fields is dependent on the value in one of the other fields.

I have a field which uses a combo box as its display control. Let's say the row sources are A, B, C, D and E. I have another field which I want to take the value 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 depending on what is selected in the first field where A = 1, B = 2 etc.

I tried creating a new table which mapped the letters to the numbers but I couldn't seem to get the relationships between the tables right so I wasn't sure if this was the right approach.

    I'm using Access 2007.

I would really appreciate some advice as I am pretty new to Access and it would be great if I could get this sorted.

    Thanks,

    Ben

It is strongly advised by seasoned developers that Lookup Fields not be used. You also do not want to devote a field in a table to something that can be calculated in a query whenever you need it.
