Convert Memo Field to Text Field in a Make Table Query

I am running a make table query, and in the "source" table, the two fields are autoNumber and memo, in my destination table, I need the memo field to be converted to a text field. Is this possible?

Data will never exceed 255 characters? Can you just change the data type of the field in source table?

Try concatenating an empty string to the memo field, worked when I tested it.

Never will exceed! And unfortunately I can't modify the source table.

I will have to search for Allen Browne's article. I need to convert so that I can link on two fields in a query. I can't join memo to text, and since changing it in the source table is out of the question, I was just going to do a make table query and change the memo to text.

    Expression to concatenate empty string:

    [fieldname] & ""

    Here is Allen's article http://allenbrowne.com/ser-63.html
