    MS Access compact problem

    Hi

We have MS Access database on shared server and accessing this database thru shortcut from desktop. All my users are doing the same.
I had problem while compacting the database. When ever i compact, it creates db1.mdb and next time db2.mdb ..so on ...

For my users also same proble. Can any one help me to find out the reason why it is happening. We verified the below also.

    1. We have all necessary read/write/execute/ delete permissions to that folder.

    2. I tried when no other users logged in

It is working fine in my local. ie the db.mdb renamed with original file name after compact and original file also deleted. The same should happen in the server but not ...

The application should be split into FrontEnd and BackEnd and everyone should have their own copy of the FrontEnd.

We had already FE and BE databases. All users access FE and only 1 user access BE. Compact problem occuring in both cases. If multiple users are accessing it wont compact. When the last user closing, it will compact ..and the problem occurs

Everyone needs their *own* copy of the FrontEnd on their own PC.

All my users having FE shortcuts in their pc's. Here I am trying to compact BE where no other usrs are using currently. I created shortcut in my desktop and opened it. When I compact it it created db1.mdb. I tried same files in another server and followed the same process, there it was compacted fin with out this issue. My server team conformed that i am having full access.

If the process working in one server, then it should work here also. Even it is working when I copied database files in local and created shortcut and tried.

A shortcut on a PC desktop is not the same as having the entire FrontEnd on that machine. Why do you keep talking about shortcuts?
