    Access Database Duplication problem

    Hi! There,
    Can any one help me with the below problem.


    I am using access 2002 . I have created a database in access , whenever i open this database.A temp file gets created in the same folder in which the database is stored.This temp file after closing the database converts into a duplicate database named db1,db2,.... please can any one provide an expert assistance to get rid of the additional duplicate files
    please help!!!!!!

    It sounds like your db is crashing. Open the db while holding down a <SHIFT> key and try and compile it and see if you have any errors.

    no access hasnt crashed it is perfectly fine
    there is someother problem
    i am using my database on a network if i move to some other drive the duplication is not there however in that particular drive when i open the database a temp file is created with a locked logo after closing the database the file creates into a new dbase file named db1,db2,.... everytime i open the dbase , if access would have crashed then it would be for all drives and not a single one

    It sounds like you have "Compact on Close" turned on and inadequate permissions on that network machine.

    Thanx Dear!

    what does "Compact on Close" means is it the option available in tools -->database utilities--> compact and repair database option. if yes how do i use it

    Look at Tools>Options...>General tab - checkbox on the bottom left. Uncheck it for now if it is checked (which I think it is).

    It is recommended you turn off compact on close when your access file is located in network drive.
