Choose the row with the MOST RECENT date

Hello i have a query that is selecting multiple rows of the same IDs but i want it to only select the one that has a date column of the most recent date. Is this possible? ex:

    ID Date
    123 03/19/2012

    123 02/20/2012
    154 01/01/2012
    154 12/12/2011

so in this case above, it should select 123 with a date of 03/19/2012 and row 154 with a date of 01/01/2012 since those are the dates that are most recent. thanks!
