Question beginners question - access database file size keeps changing?

I have created one database using ms access 2007. I save it today and its 2MB, I save it tomorrow and its 800KB... any ideas? Initially I thought it was because this depended on whether I had allowed the unknown macros content whilst re-opening the file, then saving it later on and noting the file size difference. The macros warning appears whilst opening my database, for my own files I usually allow, although I have now disabled the warning completely (top left of screen office button > access options > trust centre > trust centre settings > message bar > never show information about blocked content).

Can anyone tell me if this is related, or what the reason for the file size change is most likely to be? Whether it shows as 800kb or 2MB, the content is always identical, no data missing. Thanks for any help

Do you have "Compact on Close" enabled?

Design edits as well data quantity both affect the file size. Run Compact & Repair after significant design edits or set project to Compact on Close.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

"Compact on close" is disabled, but that seems to be it, eg:
Hitting that red X on the top right of the screen will auto save, and keep my file at its original size, when compact on close is off.
Hitting that red X on the top right of the screen will auto save and compress, when "compact on close" is on.

If I "file>save as" instead, with compact close on OR off, it will compress regardless.
Is this normal, or is it a minor issue? thanks for the replies

I wish when selecting 'save as' it would note that it was always going to compact the file, especially when the compact option is off!.. but at least I can be sure that it has nothing to do with the macros warnings upon opening every database thanks for the replies
