    I would not put the format string in the table. Put it in the control that displays the field instead. AutoNumber PrimaryKeys are not really for human consumption anyway. Normally I do not reference another forum but it was such a long and well written post that I thought I should break my rule this time. It will still not eliminate your problem if you are going to ask for user input on a search.

    I just built a test case with a Format string in the table and had no trouble looking for a Numeric value. How about posting your db so we can look at it. There must be something else going on.

    I created a new form for you to look at. The issue revolves around whether you display the ID in the ComboBox dropdown or not. And then it is probably *only* because of the format characters in the field but I didn't test that.
