    changing a records field value

is it possible to create a query or a macro that will select all records in a certain field (we will call that field x) and then paste them into another field with in the same table. Then input todays date in to every records (field x) column

A query can certainly do what you asked for but why would you want the same data in more than one field in your table?

Have you tried using the query builder to create the UPDATE query? I would first put the date in the field you want. Then I would add copying one field to the other.
