Can't open .mdb from icon, have to open within access

    Hi,

I have a .mdb file which is located on my desktop. When I go to open it buy double clicking on the icon it just shows an hourglass for a couple of seconds and does nothing. In order to open it I have to go into Access and open it that way. Any ideas what the problem maybe? I am checked and the file is aware its a .mdb file type.

    Thanks

The real answer from Microsoft is due to its own bug.

    The final solution is here:-
    Modify the shortcut
In the target of the shortcut, include the path of MSAccess.exe.

If you make a shortcut for the access file,
then the shortcut could be adjusted to have
the full path of access file included in the target of the shortcut.

    For example:
    change the target as:
    "c:\program files\OfficeXP\Msaccess.exe" "d:\mdb\nwind.mdb"

    Or alternatively,

This appears to be an issue after installing Internet Explorer 7. To solve it, you can:

    Go into your Internet Properties
    Security Tab
    Click "Local Intranet"
    Click "Sites"
Uncheck "Automatically detect intranet network", leave a check in the other three "Include..." checkboxes
