How do I add column for a phone number xxx-xxx-xxxx?

I have an access file that I use all the time and in one of the column (its for phone numbers) as soon as I click on the column it shows up ( )___-_____

When I make a new column even if I use the phone number option its just a blank column. When I click the column its just blank for typing like all the rest of them are.

However what I really want to do is make a column that as soon as I click it it shows like this ___-___-____.

    How do I do that?

I am assuming that you are trying to do this in a table.

In your table open in design view, click on the field in question. In the properties section, click on Input Mask. In the dialogue box, highlight the default telephone setup and click on edit. Now remove the two parens and insert your dash as appropriate. Save the change and you should have the format you are looking for.

Worked like a charm, thank you very much. I would have never figured that out on my own.
