Import Errors - Fields with Numbers and Letters

I'm trying to import a text file into a table in Access 2010. Some of the fields can be a number or a letter. I have given the field a datatype of "text". The numbers are importing correctly, but the letters are not. Any ideas?

What are the delimiters for your fields? It sounds like it is trying to import everything as numbers.

It is delimited by "~".

Importing into an existing table or a new table?

It is into an existing table. If I import the data into a new table it works, however, if I delete the data and then re-import to that newly created table, it gives me the same errors.

I'm not sure what is going on but the obvious work around is to import to a new table and then append the new table to the old data and then delete the new table. You knew that of course.
