Access 2010 vs 2003 hiding applications

I have a number of modules that create MS Office files, both Powerpoint and Excel. In Access 2003 the application was hidden by default until you made it visible by setting the app.visible property to true. In 2010 it seems like the default is for the app to be visible, and trying to hide it generates an error. this makes the code run much, much slower.

How do you hide the application? Is that possible?

visible has 2 options, bud. 0 and -1. if 0 works for the 2007 ver, then surely -1 works for the 2010 ver.

    ya think?

    e.g. - 0=false, -1=true (if you didn't know)
