Link between subform and mainform

I have a multi-tabbed form. On tab 2 of the form, I have a combobox and a subform. I need the link for the subform to be with the combobox. How do I do that? When I try to create the link, the masterfields list contains the fields associated with the data source for this form. The combobox is not listed within these data fields.

The main form and the sub-form on Tab2 should *not* be linked.

The sub-form on Tab2 should have the record source changed so that the criteria for the linking field references the bound field of the combo box.
