Simple auto calculate not entering in table

I am pretty new to access and can do the basics but am having an annoying problem with a form. Its for a limo business and I simply need a "fuel surcharge" field to automatically fill in $5 for every hour of the reservation. I went into design view and entered =[hours]*5 into the fuel surcharge field and it auto calculates and even shows up in the split form but when I go to a report or the table it does not show up. What am I doing wrong for sunch a simple calculation? I followed what it said in the book. Thanks for your help!

    Greetings from a competitor.

In our case, I store the current fuel surcharge in a rate table so I populate that field when the user selects a rate.
