    Auto Increment Textbox

In access 2007, I have a textbox on a form, that I am trying to automatically insert the number in the previous record +1. The field for this textbox is not autonumber, I have another field set up for that. I've tried the dmax function,
    =Dmax("[Inspection #]","[Enter Inspection]")+1
and had it working, but now all it will do is put 1000 on each record. I changed the information in the table, but that is all, and I'm not sure why it won't work. Any suggestions on other ideas or how to make the dmax function work? Thanks. :]

sorry! the expression was in default value because the examples I found placed it there.

I figured it out! I used the expression above. I just wasn't thinking because I had the field set as text instead of a number.
