help creating a sequential number for records in a table or query

It should be easy, but as a relatively new MBD person, I'm having trouble with this one.

I have a table of data that will be exported to a mainframe. No problems with the file transfer, but the format spec requires a "Record Seq #" field.

I can easily get the total records with a "count" query but can't figure out how to create a sequentially numbered field to attach to each record.

    Any ideas out there?
