    Exclamation Record Search??

I am new to this Forum and would be grateful if anyone can help me with a problem that has been bugging me for some time now.

The bottom left of the screen shows a 'record' of 'number of reports' ie. 9 of 236 however we have produced 249 records. Is there a option to change the settings anywhere in this program?

    Any help would be appreciated.

How do you account for the difference 249 vs 236?

What would you change and why?
Do you think Access has miscalculated the number of records in group of records involved?

I have just 'sorted' my ID numbers into assending order and noted that they start at 6. Do you know how to modify the ID numbers globally to start at 1? I will still be short of 7 records but this may be the first step in resolving this issue. Many thanks for the reply.

I also think (as you say) that Access have miscalculated the number of records in the group

I seriously doubt that, but if you can show otherwise, that would be interesting.

A few questions about your ID numbers:

Are you creating your own numbers, or are you using Access autonumber feature?
    Is the Id field unique?
Is it the Primary key of your table?
Why is having contiguous numbers important?
What if you had to delete a record, would you re-use the Id? If so, why?

What exactly is the problem that has been
"bugging me for some time now."

    thanks again for the reply.
We are using the Access Autonumber feature and NO this ID is not unique to my business. What is important is that the total number of records indicated in the bottom left of the screen is the actual number of records which is not the case at present. If I go to last record and press the forward arrow further records are available to view. This one is complicated to explain and does not give me a true reflection of the total number of clients we have done work for.

we would have no need to delete a record unless it was a duplication by one of my employees in which case we would still maintain our client numbers

If you are using autonumber, you should be aware that an autonumber is meant only to be unique. It is primarily for use by Access to ensure records are uniquely identified -- nothing more. Numbers are NOT necessarily in sequence. If you need an identifier that is sequential and has meaning to you, then you should NOT use autonumber.

thanks again. how do I set deselect the ID autonumber? This seems to be the problem as in the 'form view' I have 236 but the ID number is 249.

To get the number of records, use a count function.
