Access 2010 package solution upgrade option

    Hello,

I created an install package for my access application.
The package works correctly - install application (front end) in the first run and allow remove/repair if the user runs is again.

I created another install package for an updated version of my application.

When the user opens the package he gets an error: Another version of this product already installed ...

I wish to have an "upgrade" option in my install packages, so if the user has previous version of the application it will delete the file and copy the new one instead of it (the user will not have to uninstall & install the application. It will be performed using the installation package).

Can I do it using package solution 2010 ?
Is there a different way to implement this ?

    Thank you for your help

to tell you the truth, I would doubt that you can. I would tend to think that even in the 2010 version, MS would not offer that sort of option. How would you though?? When you install an Access app from a package made with the packaging wizard, there are no registry entries made, to my knowledge anyway.

I don't know much about the installation process, but I do know that those apps from the packaging wizard appear in the programs list once they're installed. So whether or not that constitutes a registry entry, I'm not sure.

But regardless, I don't think it would have that option, and I'm pretty sure it would be tough to google and find out. If there isn't, you might have to package your solutions with DOS or something like that. Another option too, might be with the windows installer. I've heard of people distributing with that as well, but I've never done it. I've only done DOS and the ADEs.

DOS is language, like anything else really. here is an eg of one I produced for a client once:

the thread itself is pretty hokey, but the script is probably something you can learn from, if you care to go that route.
