One Report field in two side-by-side columns?

    Hi,

    I'm using Access 2010.

On a report that I have designed to print out labels - I have enough vertical space to display only 4 rows of data for this one 20-character field.

However, I have enough horizontal real-estate on the report to allow for a second identical text box beside the one that can display the first 4 rows of data.

How do I make the 5th - 8th rows of data appear in the second text box? I don't remember ever having to do this before.

I have a feeling that there may be a control other than a Text Box that will allow for this scenario. But I haven't been able to figure it out yet.

I'm wondering if I will have to tweak the Sql to return the top 4 rows for the left 'column' and rows 5 - 8 for the second one??

I'd appreciate any help I can get.

    Thanks!

    Robeen

Look in Page Setup and see if the Column settings work for you (you would only have the one textbox and a report half the usual width).

    Thumbs up

    Thanks, Paul!
Your suggestion to use the Page Setup / Columns feature worked.
I had to play around with the width setting to get it just right as I am using this report as a sub-report in another report so it had to fit into that container etc.
    I appreciate your help.
Your suggestion solved it for me.

    Columns Access 2010

I also have a similar issue. I have a database that was created in Access 2000. I was able to use the report successfully in Access 2002 and converted it. I need to use the database in Access 2010 but when I open the report the columns no longer break. I thought to step through the interim versions of Access but do not have 2003 or 2007 available to me. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I attached the .mdb(nothing secure, just phone numbers). It is a mess - I didn't create it. I'm just trying to fix it.

The problem report is Telephone # List - Condensed

The Column value should work. Did you Compact and Repair before zipping up your db to post?

I did not compact and repair before posting it. I just did and that didn't help. I have attached a screen shot of the report that I get and the database(zipped).

The Columns work if you check the "Print Data Only" box of the Print Setup dialog. Have you tried that?

Do the columns work for you in Print Preview (not Report View)?

Ah! Now that is just dumb! Thank you. Is there a way to make the Report Preview match the Print preview?

To be honest, I have not used the columns before. I'm thinking you will need to make a narrow report including the headers in order for the columns to work in the Report View.
