I want to share an Access file across 2 computers

So...I have an .mde file ..I don't see an .mdb file.
Every time we use Access, it is only one PC at a time...We have to ask the other person to close their Access form, so the other person can add info to the form...

I can't do a 'save as' with the Access form ...or modify it in any way...is it locked?....
    any ideas?
When I close the form, it asks if I want to do a backup, but I don't see a backup file....

    confused in South City.....

You should really locate the mdb file so changes can be made.

Access does not normally do this on it's own. I suspect there is something in your system doing this.

Does the same condition exist when you use the MDB file rather than the mde? Be sure and make a BackUp and put it in a safe place.

I haven't tried using the .mdb file to create an invoice....

so we're using Access to create invoices for your customers....BUT...only (1) pc at a time to create invoices is a big pain...
So I'm going to split the MDB ??? to create a database on each PC...??
and then what? so each PC can use Access? do we use the .mde or the .mdb?

    thanks,..

Here's a link on how the files should be located and I would use the MDE's on both machines. http://allenbrowne.com/ser-01.html
...and the best Multi-User link I've ever found: http://www.accessmvp.com/TWickerath/.../multiuser.htm

Check that the Access file is in a Trusted Location on the other computer.

I'm afraid we're just shooting in the dark here. Any chance you could post the db? FE & BE. Remove any sensitive data. You could *import* the BE into a new db but only import the table structures and not the data. Then zip the two files up together and attach it to a post.

    So ..here's where I'm at...

'm thinking I may never locate the original .mdb that created the .mde file that we use...Can I recreate the .mdb and then split it??

my other issue with the test .mdb that I split.....I'm not sure if the other computer can access the back end mdb (.mde?)....

on the other computer...I also crated a shortcut to the file on my computer and I still wasn't able to open it....

    lost in South City.........

Import the BE into a new db but only import the structures and not the data. It is on the Advanced button while importing.
