Inquiry form updates the current record

Hello everybody. Can somebody help me?
I have a simple "Policies" table, containing some fiew fields, where the Policy Number is the primary key.
I want to create an enquiry form, where I can input a policy number, in a search field, in order to get the single, corresponding record shown in a subform (You can see the mdb here attached).
The problem is that when I type and leave the search field, its value overlaps the Policy Number in the first (current) record of the table. As an example, open the form in the attached mdb and try to search the policy 106.

I don't want the system updates anything and I'd like to show a message like "the policy doesn't exist".
    Thanks in advance.

Use the ComboBox wizard and select Option #3.

Thanks for the answare. Unfortunately I can't use a ComboBox because my table will have thousands of different policies.

The idea of to type the first characters in the ComboBox, in order to reduce the number of results is certainly useful and I'm sure I'll use it sometimes.
However I'd like to solve the problem using a TextBox.
The fact is that I think these are the basics of Access and I must understand them if I want to make Access applications.
