    Students database

    Hi,

I am working on an Access database for work and basically it needs to be students, the classes they are taking, their grades.. etc. I have made 2 separate databases with the same information in 2 different ways and I have come to the point where I don't know what else to do.. not sure how to move on from here. One database has 4 tables.. Student Info, Instructors, classes, and testing.
classes is the main table and has the fields: class ID/class name/level/instructor ID/term/location/days&times
The class ID is the primary key
When i go to the testing table, I realized that I can only put in 1 class ID in the class ID field.. but each student takes more than 1 class..
    how would I proceed?

The second database has 4 tables (class info, personal information, instructors, and grades/results)
I am trying to incorporate the information from 3 semesters into the database, and made a form to see all of the information in one place. but I noticed that when I enter a second semesters information, the form only shows the students who were listed in BOTH semesters.
I dont know if I made any sense... is there anyone out there who can help me? I would really like to finish this database.

    thanks!

There is an example at this link
    http://www.scribd.com/doc/7281200/Ov...BMS-Technology

It has a rationale for the structure and sample data .

thank you for your reply. But that did not help me because I am working on only 1 department with just a few classes.
If the primary key in my students table for Spring 2011 is their ID# and I create another table for Summer 2011 with the ID# being the primary key again, my form only shows students who is listed in both semesters. And I want it to show everyone. Does that make sense?
Should I be creating separate tables for each semester or would it make things easier if I use just 1 master table for all of the semesters?

Have you tried using the student's template?

    Hi,

You might find it easier to import your tables into the Student database template and then customize it from there. The template is a free download either from within Access or from Office.com at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/te...ai:TC001225355|

The template has some predesigned objects and some help in case you need it. Hope this helps.

Thanks RRS415, I have already tried using that students database, but it has too much info that I dont need. I took ideas from that database and created the one I have now.
I'm just having problems with the form aspect. I've got a table called student info for spring 2011. I want to add another semester, lets say, summer 2011.
i created a new table called student info summer 2011. and now my form will only show the records from the students that are listed in both semesters.

Would it make more sense to add the other semesters students also to the existing students table? if so... then it creates an issue in another table called classes. where i can only enter the class info for 1 semester.

this is driving me crazy!!!! I need help!!

Do you have a relationships diagram that you could attach?

I don't care much for your table names
    student info summer 2011
    student info for spring 2011
    How about Semester
    with field(s)
    SemesterId autonum
    SemesterName with values

    Spring 2011
    Summer 2011
    Fall 2011

    Or go here http://www.databasedev.co.uk/student...ata_model.html
