Importing an Excel file

Everytime I import an Excel file into Access it contains many fields with no data. I tried selecting the pertinent data in the spreadsheet and naming the range (or defining the range) but that did not change how the import wizard imported the file.

Any suggestions? I would really like to be able to use this but those extra lines are killing me.

you're using the import wizard? are those fields there in your xls too? If they are, then what's happening is normal. For instance, if you have columns A-J in your excel file, column J has data somewhere in it, but columns C,D and E have no data in them, an import will probably give you C,D and E, which of course will be blank.

I have columns A thru I, rows 1 thru 8779, I have named that range, however my problem is when I do the import, it is importing columns A thru I, rows 1 thru 17753. There is absolutely no data below row 8779.

highlight rows 8780 and down. That'll be what? 57,000 rows or something? highlight all of them and DELETE them via the right click menu. don't push the delete key. dont' delete the data, actually delete the ROWS. see if that helps.

Thanks for that suggestion, it worked. I also tried a different approach on a second file of the same nature with the same problem. I cleared the contents on a small section and achieved the same result, only the records I wanted were there.
