File sharing lock count exceeded. Increase MaxLocksPerFile registry entry.

    Hey all,

I try to add id field to table and get this:

"File sharing lock count exceeded. Increase MaxLocksPerFile registry entry."

Table only has a little over a million records.

So I try to troubleshoot with MS recommendation (note that I'm actually using MS-Access 2010):

In Microsoft Office Access 2007 that is running on a 32-bit Windows operating system, use Registry Editor to locate the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\ Access Connectivity Engine\Engines\ACE
    # n the right pane of Registry Editor, double click MaxLocksPerFile.
    # On the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, click Decimal.
    # Modify the value of the Value data box as required, and then click OK.

I change value to 5000000 and I still get this in Access:

"File sharing lock count exceeded. Increase MaxLocksPerFile registry entry."

I try to change value to 9000000 and I get this from Windows XP:

"The decimal value entered is greater than the maximum value of a DWORD. Registry Editor will truncate the value entered."

So I'm not sure what to do. I'm just trying to add an id field to a table.

Are you running some sort of query? Have you done a Compact and Repair yet? Have you tried *importing* your db into a fresh new db and see if the problem follows?

    Thanks for response.

    * I wasn't running query. I was just trying to add a new field id primary key auto increment.

    * I tried compact and repair and it still gave error.

    * I don't know what you mean by export database. I googled and there was no example of how to export a database. I saw examples of how to export tables to excel, but not full databases.

    Thanks for response

I also had this same problem with win7 and access2010.
I created a new database, imported objects and this solved the problem!
    thanks, Greg
