    Database Updates

    I have split my database into a front end and a back end. I have created a table in the backend (located on the server) that lists the current version of the database, and a label on the start page of each front end that lists the current database version based on the table (so that anyone using the program gets the version from the backend, not their own copy).



    Right now, I have a form that pops up if the version doesn't match and gives instructions on how to copy the new version onto the user's computer, then closes the program so they don't use the old version.

    What I would like to have is some code that will automatically copy the new file from the server to replace the old version and restart the database. I would like this to work with where the user wants to keep the file (i.e. some people like the desktop, others use personal drives, etc). Is this possible?

    A lot of us write our own utilities (I use VB6, others use batch files, etc). The basic premise is that the user starts a utility, which handles the version updating as required, and then starts the actual application, all transparent to the user. There are free utilities around like this one as well:
