Hi,
I have a need to migrate my data from MS Access 2013 to Sybase. Can anyone help me, how should I go about it?
sybase is a relational database just like MS access, if you are keeping the same structure of all your tables etc, what exactly is the problem, You should be able to insert your existing data into your sybase tables by either pushing them from the Access side (you would have to have permissions to the sybase tables) or by exporting the data from MS access to text files and importing them on the sybase side. The only thing that may be tricky is the primary key fields or is that the part you're struggling with?
That seems to me to be a question for the Sybase folks unless you're implementing something without any external help.
This:

seems to indicate if you insert data into a Sybase table, as long as your primary key field is unique, it will be preserved.
??? Are you abandoning MS Access completely? ORneed to migrate my data from MS Access 2013 to Sybase
Will you keep Access front end and have Sybase backend??
What is your experience/understanding of Sybase? ODBC?
Where does Sybase fit within your organization?
How well do you know your current MS Access 2013 database? Did you design it? Do you maintain it?
What exactly is your role in the proposed project?
There are youtube videos on Sybase and ODBC that may be helpful.
Just trying to understand your "need".
Good luck.
Hi, thanks for your response and sorry for the delay in reply
I am a novice to Sybase and MS Access and have little understanding of ODBC
The data that we are handling is partially on MS Access and partially on Sybase. The data in MS Access is getting too huge and it is getting slow to work with. That's why it is decided to migrate the database from MS Access to Sybase.
I have been assigned the task of finding out a way to migrate the data from MS Access to Sybase with keeping the relationships intact.
I tried searching for a solution by googling first but I didn't find suitable answers, so I posted my question here for the guidance of the experts here.
Why were you selected for this project?I am a novice to Sybase and MS Access and have little understanding of ODBC
Where exactly does Sybase fit into the picture? Who manages/supports Sysbase in your org?The data that we are handling is partially on MS Access and partially on Sybase.
Please provide some statistics. Do you do Compact and Repair regularly? The data in MS Access is getting too huge
