Unhappy Automatic Outline creation has unwanted blank rows.

I have created a report that uses a query based on successively linked tables. It follows the procedure described in another forum (paid) under the topic "How do I set up outline numbering in an MS Access Report." It works well to generate the outline for me, but the difference is that not all of my Steps have children steps associated with them.

    I am aiming for this:

Size:	75.5 KB
ID:	37897

But am ending up with blank rows where a Step does not have any 'children' steps.

I figure I'm going to have to add an equation, like "iif([thisthingisblank] then [skip it])" but i'm not sure what sort of script to use. I don't know how to tell Access to "skip this row." Is this even possible?

    Any advice?
    Thanks much!

"Can Shrink" and "Can Grow" do not work.

    P. S. I set the "Can Grow" and "Can Shrink" to each value, but that does not eliminate the row because the numbering is still present.
I think it could work if I can associate the numbering formula with a blank cell (when the info for that Step is blank), and eliminate the numbering.

    My numbering formula for the 3rd tiered step is: =[txtStep1Count] & "." & [txtStep2Count] & "." & [txtStep3Count].

I'll try something like "if step3 is "", format = hidden"..... with me luck!

Hiding control won't eliminate the white space. VBA code in report Format event might be able to suppress output of a row or at least set textbox height to 0.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.
