Count the Nulls in between occurrences of a specific value in a table?

I want to count the zeros or Nulls between the occurrences of the letter 'A'. Can this be done in a query?

You don't have any nulls. Do you want to count the zeroes?
Could there ever be any gaps in ID values due to deleted records or can that field be used for counting?

    Hi Isla,

Thank you for replying.. Yes I want to count the zeros and no, there are no deleted records, but a new record is added weekly.

Its made a bit more difficult by having not A at the start or end. No time to look at it now. Hopefully someone else will offer a solution in the meantime
