    Time is 01:10 am here now, so I'm going to get some sleep (I'm 82 so I do need it !). Tomorrow I'll go on exploring Access and I'll keep you posted about any progress !

    One happy old (82) guy !! On the internet I found a link to convert from .mdb to .accdb :

    Immediately after using it I could add a calculated field to a a table !! Thanks everybody who helped me in getting to the base of the problem. That link may be a help to other people too !
